On August 11 River AI announced $1.1 billion across Series Seed and Series A. The company’s own post said General Catalyst and AMP PBC led, with strategic money from NVIDIA and AMD Ventures and participation from Y Combinator and Temasek. TechCrunch noted the company had come out of stealth in June and did not disclose a valuation.

What River said the money is for

CEO Igor Babuschkin wrote that “AI should be open, freely available, and affordable” and that River exists so people and companies can own their intelligence, starting with tools to train, tune, and own their own models. His posted bio includes generative modeling and RL at DeepMind, large-scale training at OpenAI, and co-founding xAI.

  • Round size: $1.1 billion, seed + Series A combined
  • Leads: General Catalyst, AMP PBC
  • Strategic: NVIDIA, AMD Ventures

Takeaways

  • This is a company announcement, not a leaked term sheet
  • Valuation was not published on August 11
  • The stated product is a personal/enterprise training stack, not a consumer chatbot
