JSON Formatter Next is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that formats JSON content displayed in web pages. This privacy policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Data collection

JSON Formatter Next does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information or the content of the web pages you visit.

The extension does not:

  • Collect names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information
  • Record browsing history or user activity for analytics
  • Send JSON page content or any other page data to external servers
  • Use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services

Local settings

The extension stores only your local preferences using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This includes:

  • Whether auto-formatting is enabled
  • Your selected theme (light, dark, or system)

These settings are saved locally in your browser and may sync across your Chrome profile through Google's Chrome Sync service. This data is not accessible to the developer or any third party.

On-page processing

When you visit a page that contains JSON, the extension processes that content locally in your browser to display a formatted view. All formatting, searching, copying, downloading, and JSON comparison happens entirely on your device. No page content is uploaded or shared.

Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions needed for its core functionality:

  • storage — to save your preferences (auto-format and theme)
  • activeTab — to show the current tab URL when you open the popup
  • host access (http/https) — to detect and format JSON pages on any website

Remote code

JSON Formatter Next does not use remotely hosted code. All JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and images are bundled inside the extension package.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties. We do not use user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's core functionality.

Children's privacy

JSON Formatter Next is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
