Lock Password Next · Last updated: July 9, 2026

Lock Password Next is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that lets you password-protect your browsing session with a lock overlay on tabs. This privacy policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Data collection

Lock Password Next does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to the developer or any third party.

The extension does not:

  • Collect names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information
  • Record browsing activity for analytics or advertising
  • Send page content, passwords, or browsing data to external servers
  • Use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services

Local storage

The extension stores data locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This may include:

  • A salted password hash (your plain password is never saved)
  • An optional password hint you choose to save
  • Extension settings (protection enabled, lock on startup, auto-lock minutes, failed-attempt limits, fail action, theme, lock scope)
  • A list of hostnames when you use “selected sites” lock mode

This data remains on your device and is not accessible to the developer. It is not uploaded to any server operated by the developer.

On-page behavior

When your session is locked, the extension injects a local lock overlay into open tabs so page content cannot be viewed until you unlock. Password verification happens locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API (PBKDF2-SHA-256). No password or page content is transmitted externally.

Permissions

The extension requests only the permissions needed for its core functionality:

  • storage — save settings and the password hash locally
  • tabs — apply and update the lock overlay across open tabs
  • browsingData — only when you enable “Clear browsing history” as the action after maximum failed unlock attempts
  • host access (http/https) — show the lock overlay on web pages while the session is locked

Remote code

Lock Password Next does not use remotely hosted code. All JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and images are bundled inside the extension package.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties. We do not use user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's core functionality.

Security note

Lock Password Next is a browser session lock for everyday privacy. It is not a substitute for operating-system-level security or full-disk encryption.

Children's privacy

Lock Password Next is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.
