Description
Giant Sparrow is looking for a Senior Gameplay Designer to help shape a new game focused on intimate, unusual, and expressive interactions with wild animals. You will join a small senior team and work at the intersection of game design and programming, creating rapid prototypes and defining the feel, direction, and player experience of the project.
Responsibilities
- Brainstorm new interactions between humans and animals
- Build rapid 3D gameplay prototypes in Unreal Engine
- Tune movement controls, physics, and animal responses
- Create tactile, expressive, and responsive gameplay interactions
- Collaborate with programmers, animators, and artists
- Develop prototypes into polished gameplay experiences
- Create art briefs for gameplay features
- Provide feedback to align visual direction with gameplay
- Participate actively in playtests
- Lead iteration and gameplay review discussions
- Help define the overall direction and feel of the game
Required Skills
- At least five years of professional game development experience
- Strong gameplay prototyping skills
- Experience with C++ or strong C# knowledge with willingness to learn C++
- Proven experience creating expressive and responsive gameplay interactions
- Experience designing 3D gameplay spaces
- Ability to work independently in early prototype stages
- Strong understanding of game feel
- Ability to collaborate across design, programming, animation, and art
- Availability for at least four hours of overlap with the team between 9 AM and 6 PM Pacific Time
Nice to Have
- Experience with Unreal Engine
- Experience with Blueprint scripting
- Familiarity with Blender or Maya
- Experience creating unconventional gameplay systems
- Interest in science, biology, or natural systems
- Personal game projects
- Experimental gameplay prototypes
- Indie game development experience
